Fish Pursued

RI waters offer a variety of different fish. That is why we offer a mixture of trips to match each fishery. Our 4 hr. mini trip is an excellent trip to introduce children to light tackle saltwater fishing. It’s ideal for those who quickly become restless. The boat remains within one mile from land, which should eliminate most seasickness. Fluke, sea bass and porgies are the fish we target. This is our least expensive fishing trip. The 5 and 6 hr trip allows us to fish Block Island waters for larger bass and bluefish. The 8 hr. full day allows for a combination of different fishing. Offshore fishing is available for those who would like to pursue shark, tuna, marlin and mahi mahi.

Involvement in Shark Tagging

"Snappa" has been involved with the National Marine Fisheries Service Shark Tagging Program since 1976. Results from our tagging provide useful information concerning feeding, reproduction, growth, and migration habits. Of the 2038 sharks that have been tagged and released, 207 have been recaptured. Our most notable tag releases were from a 20 ft. Great White Shark weighing approximately 4000 lbs. and a 4 ft. Great White. One being the largest and the other being one of the smallest Great Whites ever released for the N.M.F. Shark Tagging Program. A number of our sharks were at liberty for as long as 12 yrs. prior to recapture. Notable returns have come from areas as distant as the Gulf of Mexico, Venezuela, the Azores and off the west coast of Africa near the Cape Verde Islands some 2,700 miles away. The types of sharks one may encounter in our waters include the Dusky, Blue, Thresher, Basking, Sandbar, Great White, Hammerhead, Mako and Tiger.
