New BoatIntroducing the new, latest and greatest SNAPPA! The past year has been an exciting, yet exhausting experience for me, due to the construction of the new boat. My presence in Maine was required on many occasions where decisions had to be made regarding the layout of the boat and operation of equipment. Also a number of compromises were made with the Coast Guard, who has the final word on construction approval. In the end, I think you will be very happy with the way the boat has been designed and built. The sea trials should take place around early April. If our calculations are correct, the boat should have a cruising speed near 20 knots. With an additional month to work out any bugs, the boat should be available for cod fishing by early May. Because the layout of the old Snappa worked so well, I have kept the basic design the same but added improvements for comfort and better fishing and diving. When you step aboard you will immediately notice the enormous cockpit that measures 7 ft longer and 2 ½ feet wider than the old boat. The extra room means there is space for a third fighting chair, providing more comfort and convenience. An outside shower has also been included for our divers, along with a walkout transom door and a fresh water wash tank for cameras. Located beneath the deck are two live fish wells and a huge insulated fish hold to keep any offshore game fish as fresh as possible. In the cabin, there is seating provided to accommodate 14 passengers. While having lunch or playing cards, a group of 4 can comfortably sit at our spacious dinette. In the forward cabin there is an enclosed head with a sink and shower. Also in the forward cabin is a galley with a hot plate, microwave, refrigerator and freezer. There are 3 bunks located forward of the galley. On the bridge with its 6ft high ceiling, you will find seating for 3 people. The electronics are state of the art and are all in duplicate. With the increased size in length, width, and weight of the entire boat, everyone should notice an appreciable difference in comfort and stability. The increase in size will allow for groups up to 16 people on fishing trips and up to 25 for sightseeing. . |
